Pat JenningsOn Saturday 6th June, Newry born soccer legend, Pat Jennings, will be back on home turf at Newry City football grounds to ‘kick off’’ Parker Green International’s annual cross border soccer tournament. The day event, which is free to attend, will include junior and senior footballers from Newry and Carlow, who live adjacent to Parker Green’s two commercial schemes; The Quays in Newry and Fairgreen Shopping Centre in Carlow.

Speaking on the forthcoming cross border tournament, Parker Green’s Managing Director, Dr. Gerard O’Hare said:
We are delighted to once again host this cross border soccer event, involving our Drumalane residents in Newry and New Oak residents in Carlow. This is a fantastic opportunity to unite our local kids with children from the other end of the country through their mutual love of football. Last year, we officially launched the inaugural tournament down in Carlow. There was a great turn out at the matches, with Carlow born soccer star Padraig Hammond, a member of the Ireland under-21 soccer squad, making an appearance. It was such a success that we decided to make it an annual event and this year thanks to the generous use of Newry City Showgrounds, we can offer the people of Carlow a warm Newry welcome and it will be fantastic to have our very own Newry soccer hero Pat Jennings present to start the proceedings.

The event which has been organised by the two shopping centre management teams, Drumalane Community Association and the New Oak football club in Carlow will kick off at 11.00 am in the Newry City Showgrounds. It is not a ticketed event and everyone is welcome to show his or her support, although any donation to the Ulster Cancer Foundation will be very much appreciated on the day
