A number of local suppliers have recently signed a deal with Sainsbury’s that will see their products stocked in all Sainsbury’s stores in Scotland as well as in Northern Ireland.

Benefiting from this new deal will be Mash Direct, Tayto, Whites, Largo Foods (Velvet Crunch), Morrow Foods and Punjana.
Mash Direct will see their current Scottish offering extended to nine products  while Whites will be taking their ‘Only Oats’ to Scotland for the first time. Tayto will be tempting the Scottish palette with the Northern Irish favourite Tayto Cheese & Onion crisps while Fairtrade Teabags will be the order of the day from Punjana.

Michael McCambley, Northern Ireland Commercial Buyer for Sainsbury’s said, “We are delighted to be expanding the range available from Northern Ireland suppliers in Scottish stores. Local lines from Northern Ireland tend to do very well in Scottish stores. It is a testament to the quality of the product available here.

“Mash Direct is a perfect example of local produce going down well with Scottish customers. Last year we brought four of their new lines to Scotland and this will now be expanding to nine. Having a network of Sainsbury’s stores right across the UK gives us the opportunity to give impressive local suppliers a potentially UK wide market. If successful, all of these suppliers will see significant increases in revenue which will hopefully lead to new job opportunities.”

Martin Hamilton, Managing Director of Mash Direct added, “We are once again delighted to be working with Sainsbury’s in bringing our new lines to the Scottish market. These five products have been trading very well in Northern Ireland as have the four lines we already have in Sainsbury’s Scottish stores. It is a great boost for our company and for Northern Ireland suppliers to have so many products from here available in other parts of the UK.”

Sainsbury’s currently has ten stores in Northern Ireland and twenty two in Scotland. An eleventh store in West Belfast is due to open towards the end of the summer.
