If you’re still searching for that last-minute Christmas gift, why not fire the starting pistol for a friend or relative to take part in the most spectacular coastal run in the British Isles?
For anyone interested in running or general fitness, entering them for the Premier Power Larne Half Marathon could make the ideal Christmas gift. Alternatively, for serial New Year resolution breakers, it’s the perfect incentive to stick to that ‘getting fitter’ goal with the race happening just three months into 2010.
The 2010 Premier Power Half Marathon will take place along the stunning Antrim Coast Road on Saturday, March 20th. The Coast Road, with its sheer cliffs on one side and sea views on the other, was named by the Guardian Travel Magazine as the second most spectacular road trip in the world, coming ahead of a route through the Himalayan mountains.
It’s the seventh year Premier Power and Larne Athletic Club have organised the event. Barbara Stevenson, Premier Power Communications Manager, said:
“Premier Power is delighted to team up again with Larne Athletic Club to organise a race which has risen steeply in popularity over recent years to become one of the most important dates in the Northern Ireland athletics calendar.
“The Larne Half Marathon is one of the cornerstones of Premier Power’s commitment to supporting local clubs and organisations, and the race has turned into a real community event attracting runners from all over Northern Ireland and further afield.”
This year a cap of 1,000 places has been set for the event and organisers are urging would-be participants to register now in order to ensure their entry. The event attracts a wide range of runners from elite international athletes and experienced club runners who view it as the ideal preparation for the Belfast City Marathon, as well as fun runners, joggers, relay teams and walkers.
To purchase an entry online simply visit www.larneac.co.uk. Entry fees are £14 for club affiliated runners (£15 non-affiliated) and £8 for walkers. Race organiser, Andy Gregg, from Larne Athletic Club, said:
“We always look forward to organising the Premier Power Larne Half Marathon which allows fun runners, joggers and club athletes to compete alongside international athletes in one of the most amazing settings of any run throughout the world.
“Anyone not familiar with just how amazing the scenery is can visit our Facebook site and see some of the pictures of last year’s event, which attracted almost 700 people in a record turn-out. We expect this year’s event to be bigger and better, and encourage people to register before the race is booked out.”
