Carrick Student Peter Donoghue impressed judges including Celebrity Chef Jamie Oliver at the UK Finals of Sainsbury’s Active Kids Get Cooking Special Challenge. The 17 year old pupil at Jordanstown Schools for Hearing and Visually Impaired was the only Northern Ireland Winner at the Sainsbury’s event in London. Peter who is visually impaired was tasked with making a healthy breakfast and drink taking into account current healthy eating guidelines. His dish of ‘Magnificent Mushrooms’ stuffed with spinach, Gruyere cheese and pine nuts washed down with a ‘Carrot and Ginger Zing’ drink won over the panel which included Sainsbury’s CEO Justin King. Peter is pictured receiving his certificate from Stephanie Valentine, British Nutrition Foundation, Jamie Blackstaff, Food Standards Agency and Chef Jamie Oliver. Anahilt Primary School from Hillsborough and Killicomaine Junior High School Portadown were the other Northern Ireland finalists.
