Businesses throughout Craigavon are being urged to send in their entries for Craigavon Business Awards ahead of the upcoming deadline. Officers from Craigavon Borough Council’s Development Department have been out and about in the Craigavon area in a white Audi supplied by Portadown Audi, with Craigavon Business Awards branding, to raise awareness of the Awards among local businesses.

Organised by Craigavon Borough Council’s Development Department, in association with the Portadown Chamber of Commerce, the awards recognise the vital contribution made by companies throughout the Borough to the local economy. There are 12 award categories and the awards will be presented at a high profile gala ceremony on 10th June 2010 in Craigavon Civic and Conference Centre.

Among the award categories is the Sir Allen McClay Young Business Person of the Year Award which will pay tribute to Sir Allen McClay, the founder of ALMAC, who died earlier this year.

Other award categories include: Most Innovative Business, Best New Business, Best Green Business, Manufacturing Excellence Award, Tourism Business of the Year, Best Retailer (Independent) and Best Retailer (Multiple), Best Business Award (Rural), Best Business Award(Urban), Best Export Initiative Award and Outstanding contribution to the local economy.

 The Mayor of Craigavon, Councillor Mrs Meta Crozier, said:

“We are encouraging local companies to showcase their accomplishments and seek recognition for their many achievements. During my term in office as Mayor, I have had many opportunities to meet with the business community within the Borough of Craigavon and I know that it holds a wealth of talent and expertise. I hope that many of these companies will consider entering the inaugural Craigavon Business Awards 2010.”

Alderman Sydney Anderson, Chair of the Development Committee, added;

So far we’ve had great interest from local companies in entering Craigavon Business Awards but given that it’s the first year of the Awards the branded car has helped us to get the message out to the local business community about the upcoming awards. We are looking forward to seeing a high quality of entries from local companies across all the Award categories, during the judging process.”

 Sponsors for the awards include ALMAC, Portadown Chamber of Commerce, Craigavon Industrial Development Organisation (CIDO), Health and Safety Services, Southern Regional College, Invest Northern Ireland, Department for Social Development, ML Design and Management, Ulster Bank and firmus energy.
