Irish companies battling through the current economic doom and gloom will hear how they could be doing business in the heart of the Mediterranean as the island of Malta hold two high-level business breakfasts in Dublin and Belfast on 14 & 15 May.
Hosted by Malta’s inward investment agency Malta Enterprise, the events are designed for Irish companies who may be thinking about broadening horizons and expanding into new markets.
Senior personnel from Irish companies will learn how Malta’s location and trading history positions it as a gateway to difficult to access markets including the Middle East and North Africa. Previous investors have been attracted by the lower cost workforce, responsive higher education sector as well as a highly competitive tax regime.
Honorary Consul for Malta in Northern Ireland Tom Kelly said he believed there had never been a better time for local companies to look towards the island as an investment opportunity.
“The links between Malta and Ireland, both North and South are strengthening. As a full member of the European Union, with English as its language of business Malta can often surprise many international visitors. But with developments like the US$300m Smart City ICT hub and Lufthansa Technick moving a major part of their Aviation maintenance operation to the island it is easy to see why confidence in the Maltese economy continues to grow at pace.”
Malta Enterprise is particularly keen to engage with companies operating in high skill and technical sectors, such as Chemical and Pharmaceutical, Aviation, Information Technology and Healthcare. The island has also experienced growth in engineering specialties and is well placed to attract companies across the spectrum of disciplines particularly chemical, mechanical, electrical and environmental.
Indeed one of the poster companies that illustrate the growing links between the two islands is Irish engineering firm FM Environmental whose Chairman Eamonn Fitzpatrick will address both events.
“We have been operating in Malta for 15 years now and it has been tremendous addition to our business in Ireland. The positive business culture and closely matched legal framework were factors in our decision, and life and work in the Mediterranean is also a big attraction for some of our senior staff. But undoubtedly the biggest contribution it brings to FM Environmental is the access to emerging markets, as well as a business friendly taxation regime.”
The first of the events will take place in Dublin on the 14th May in the Morgan Hotel at 8:00am. Belfast’s event will be held in the Ulster Reform Club on the 15th May.
